Our Founders

Founder and CEO - Ms. Maurine Pearson - Ms. Maurine Pearson is a determined Texas businesswoman and ranch owner whose vision and passion for helping others are the driving forces behind Lucid Med Tec II, Ltd. She has been very committed to the emu industry for the more than ten years after seeing the remarkable results emu oil had on human burn victims. She bred and raised emu for several years, then decided her efforts could be utilized more effectively in assisting in research rather than raising the emu. For six years, Ms. Pearson donated the eggs laid by her emu for use in cardiovascular studies at the University of North Texas. Ms. Pearson has helped write 7 patents, 3 of which have been issued and 3 of which are pending. She is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, American Emu Association, and the Texas Emu Association. Despite her responsibilities as CEO of Lucid Med Tec II, Ltd, she is also very active in community organizations and has served on the board of the Denton County Children's Advocacy Center and the Denton County Friends Of The Family. She is also a graduate of the Flower Mound Leadership classes.

Vicki Hofert, President and Chief Operating Officer - As President of the company Vicki Hofert wears many hats. She brings a diverse background as the owner of two other businesses to her work with Lucid Med Tec II, Ltd. With a proven track record in risk management, banking, as well as performance as a top sales executive, she is putting the diversity of her experience to work in her many duties for the company. Mrs. Hofert oversees all company-sponsored university research and is responsible for Lucid Med Tec II administrative operations as well. Among her chief responsibilities are managing the many special projects involved in branding the company's family of products, regulatory and legal issues, development of new products, and customer service. What she loves about her job is helping people and animals. She says, “I’m especially proud of the animals we’re able to save that might otherwise be put down. Many pet owners and veterinarians are surprised to experience dramatic recoveries with our products in animals with wounds that would previously be considered untreatable.” She adds, “This is very fulfilling work. My vision for the company is that we are able to spread the word through our technical bulletins and published lab studies as well as word of mouth from happy users of the many ways we can help people and the animals they love.”

Chief Scientific Officer - Dr. Warren Burggren - Dr. Warren Burggren received his Ph.D. in Animal Physiology from the University of East Anglia in England, and has held university faculty and academic appointments at the University of Massachusetts, University of Nevada - Las Vegas, and the University of North Texas, where he currently serves as Dean of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Biological Sciences. Dr. Burggren's National Science Foundation-funded laboratory and field research focuses on the relationship between genes and environment in molding organism development, particularly the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. He has authored more than 150 journal articles, 30 book chapters and 6 books in animal physiology and related topics. Most notably, is co-author of Eckert Animal Physiology, the leading college text on this subject. Dr. Burggren has given more than 100 seminar lectures in 10 countries. From 1988-1995 he was Editor-In-Chief for the University of Chicago Press’ journal Physiological Zoology. For his research efforts, Dr. Burggren has been named a Barrick Distinguished Scholar, and has received both the Nevada Board of Regent's Silver Medal for Research and the Medal of the University of Helsinki. He currently serves on the National Science Foundation's Advisory Board for the Biology Directorate.

Director of Research & Development - Ms. Tess Barr - Ms. Tess Barr has 15 years of extensive experience formulating and marketing patented products. From 1991-1998 Ms. Barr worked closely with the world-renowned author and skin care authority, Dr. Peter T. Pugliese, who referred to Ms. Barr as "one of the foremost formulators of our time." Ms. Barr has also developed formulations with leaders in the cosmetic industry, who have produced advanced technology formulations for major corporations such as, Revlon, Estee Lauder and Procter & Gamble. Dedicated to ongoing research and development of formulations and identifying patented complexes within formulations, Ms. Barr has written and filed 86 patents, 21 of which have been issued. Such patents include over-the-counter-drugs such as topical pain relievers, supplements for musculoskeletal diseases, unique sun block and sensitive skin care products from oats as well as environmentally friendly refrigeration fluid additives and FDA compliant Emu oil formulations. Ms. Barr also has experience raising capital and creating sound business plans and strategies, as well as managing logistical operations.

Research Specialist - Ms. Juli Black - Ms. Juli Black received her BS (Honors) in Biology from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada, and her MS in Physiology from the University of North Texas, where she completed a research thesis on the effects of hypothermic egg incubation on the development of thermoregulatory capabilities, metabolic rate, and blood hematology. Ms. Black has presented research papers at conferences in Canada, the US and Japan, and is currently enrolled in dental school in Nova Scotia, Canada.
